Who’s behind it?

The origin of the name ae’kai is Hawaiian and means «the place where the land meets the sea». Fitting its name, this website contains pictures taken on land and underwater from all around the globe. The strong bond of the photographer to Hawai’i has made the choice of name very easy, especially since it fits so well.

The Photographer

Angela “Angie” Loetscher is a passionate sports diver and photographer. In 2004 Angie passed her PADI OWD in Zurich’s lakes and immediately built up experience in the lakes of Switzerland, Germany and Austria. After her first photographic steps with a little compact camera, she switched to an Olympus E-520 SLR in 2009.

Since 2013 she has been photographing with an Olympus OM-D named “Baby”, not just on land, but underwater, too. Angie aims to bring the amazing underwater world a little closer to non-divers in order to underline why it deserves protection, and to capture compositions of light and color that show nature’s beauty.

On land, Angie works in strategic marketing and innovation in Zurich where she puts her experiences collected while diving to good use when interacting with people, especially in regards to non-verbal communication. She writes articles, travel experiences and photo reports for the online diving magazine Globediver and for the Swiss Underwater Sports Association member’s magazine Nereus.
